#6 Put yourself on Wikipedia

When people ask me why I write I start to vibrate because I know that they've just poured water on my towel. And when there's water on your towel you know you just have to wave it in the air. Everybody knows that. The question triggers something much larger than a simple answer.

For me the meaning of life is to be seen, heard, making oneself needed, essential, and missed. Touching people. So that they when they are somewhere ask themselves: Where's Navid? Or: Navid would have liked this. Finding your place. Having a purpose. Translating that thought into something digital could very well result in your own Wikipedia page.

Wikipedia is a user generated online encyclopedia. A sort of digital registry over things, phenomena, people, words and other things existing around us. The address is www.wikipedia.org.

The trouble with Wikipedia is that you have to be relevant to have your own entry. You need to be able to link to another entry. So it's about relevance. That in itself can be the ego boost you need on a rainy day. To sit down and make a list of what entries could be considered relevant (some more farfetched than others) to you. Then write your own Wikipedia entry with information about yourself with name, birthplace, trivia, work experiences and personal quotes. Link your entry to your aunt the inventor or the grandfather who performed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Add to your own reputation or tailor the myth of you. Or just make things up. Think up masterful lies that can't be disproven. Relevance is relative. The window is open.

Required time:
Including research and thinking up witty sayings: An hour, tops. You can always update your entry later on if you think of or find more relevant entries or if you want to keep building your image.
Cost:
None.
Cons:
It can be tricky to think of relevant entries but look at how other peoples entries look for inspiration.
Pros:
If someone googles you before a job interview, date, or similar, they'll find a Wikipedia entry with your name up on top in bold letters. Now that's what I call making a first impression.

I just made an entry for myself, but a few hours later they deleted it :[ I guess I'm not that interesting after all, or I have to embellish my accomplishments a bit more :p

You can't enter yourself in Wikipedia or let anyone you know write about you in Wikipedia if you aren't a famous person. They will delete it, there are rules about that sort of thing.

Du borde skriva saker att göra lite tidigare på dagen, man kan inte göra vissa av sakerna när dagen är slut.

Puss.

When writing your Wikipedia entry, it is very important that you retain a neutral voice. Anything promotional will go right into the bin.
