#87 Give the planet an electric break for an hour
I had just met E, and we were sitting in her sofa on Räntmästaregatan. Outside the storm Gudrun was having a party. She ripped off tin roofs and crumpled them up into cocktail sticks, took a few dance steps on football fields and cobbled squares. I asked E if she had some candles. She pointed to the kitchen. I was so incredibly nervous that I tripped on the threshold from the living room. It wasn’t because of the storm. It was because of her. She made me clumsy. The matter wasn’t helped by the fact that power had gone out, but after a while we had lit up small islands of light in the apartment. Karate snuck around avoiding the flames, pressing her head against my hand hanging down from the couch and I think we talked about how that Sibas CEO had been kidnapped and put in a box. It was strange how the room had stopped buzzing. There was no electricity in any household appliances, nothing in the walls and nothing in the air. The only sound came from Gudrun, who sang Singstar over the roof tops and struck down branches and twigs when she wanted to show that she was singing the chorus. My head was spinning. And it wasn’t because of Gudrun.
Tonight is Earth Hour. This means you should turn off all appliances and any other electronic equipment, and pretend that the power is out. This is to send a clear signal to all those in power that we care about our planet. And that it’s good to sit and cuddle in front of some candles with your sweetheart. To give some inspiration on what can be done in the dark, the following is a list of activities that are suitable even without electricity:
1. Drawing. You can either draw a friend or yourself. Or, do both. Draw yourself, and then let your friend draw you. Then compare and see who was closest.
2. Give each other massages if you are two or more. Either taking turns or in a circle. It’s nice and it’s good for you and it’ll warm up you as well.
3. Bake chocolate balls. There is no need for electricity for this. And then when the hour is over you can invite all the neighbors who participated in Earth Hour over for snacks.
