#92 Take a writing class
Today is World Autism Awareness Day. United Nations established the day to raise awareness about autism.
Today’s guest blogger named Jenny Lexhed is the author of "Det räcker inte med kärlek" about her son with autism. She is also a lecturer and a founder of Talarforum. You can find more about her here. http://www.jennylexhed.se/
Have you been told that you can’t sing, that you're terrible at Swedish or that you can’t throw a ball? Screw that and take a class.
I had experiences I wanted to work through and a story I wanted to get out of me, so I signed up for a writers class. In the class, I found my voice and the result was a book! "Det räcker inte med kärlek" is about the fight for my son with autism and how I myself was hit by an exhaustion induced psychosis and was forcefully admitted to a mental institution. Today I get an incredible number of readers' letters from people in crisis or from parents thanking me for a book that gave them hope, knowledge, and that actually in some cases affected their lives. The book is used in different courses and I am out lecturing for schools, healthcare, social services and the public. Please read the book and learn more about autism!
Did you know ...
... that Autism affects as many as 1 in 150 children and 1 of 94 boys?
... that Autism is the fastest growing serious disability in the world?
... that more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than diabetes, cancer and AIDS combined?
... that there is no medicine or cure for autism but early diagnosis and training can help the child's development?
Autism is characterized by severe and pervasive restrictions in several key areas of development: reciprocal social interaction, communication and behavior and imagination.
