#106 Pep someone who's gotten a lot of shit

In 2003 Linda Rosing was on the reality show Big Brother on Channel 5. Since then she has been the Swedish people’s own piñata. A piñata is a doll made of papier mâché that Mexican children fill with candy, hang up a tree and then hit it until the silicone breasts burst and tears and the candy falls out. As soon as Linda is on a front page, talking about how she feels in the morning newspapers, trying to make porn, getting divorced, or is engaged, the bats come out and we hit as hard as we can and hope that she will crack.

In 2009, Linda played the main role in the reality show "The right of Rosing" which is about how she must find a husband. The program was a seldom seen catastrophe. Once again, we turn to Linda swinging with baseball bats and pitchforks.

But here is where we can we do something new, I think. It's so fucking boring to kick someone who has already been taking so much shit. If one instead were to take five minutes to think about how to pep a person and do something constructive and / or nice.

During a workshop with 365 things you can do in Hallunda in Stockholm we came up with an idea. We asked the 50 participants to write a supportive letter to Linda Rosing. The letters we collected in a large envelope and then sent by snail mail to miss Rosing with words of encouragement. The message said: Screw guys. Find the stability, love and strength in yourself.

Bonus: There are also other people to send letters to to try and pep. It might be difficult to send letters to Dawit Isaak, but you can send a message as a message in a bottle, as a letter to a newspaper or actually try to find the address of the prison where he sits. http://www.freedawit.com/

Required time:
It took about 15 minutes for 25 people to write their handwritten letter to Linda. Multiply by two groups equals 30 minutes for 50 handwritten letters. To look up the address of Linda's press person took five minutes and then another five minutes to buy a large envelope, write the address and mail the letters. A total of 40 minutes.
Cost:
The cost of postage, envelope, paper and pencil. No more than €2. You probably have some of the stuff at home already. Max ten bucks for a letter. This can definitely be made as a regular activity.
Cons:
It takes a little more time, courage and strength to be nice to someone than to diss them. It requires breaking ones usual laziness and patterns of trashing people instead of being constructive and kind to them.
Pros:
You make a person happy. You yourself become happier by doing good deeds. You will set an example for other people. Ripples. Spreading. Like a smile virus.
