#115 Read a book about a subject you know nothing about

There is no reason to just hang out with journalists just because you yourself are a journalist.

There is no reason to just hang out with children just because you yourself is a child.

There is no reason to just hang out with owls just because you yourself happen to be an owl.

It would be an incredibly boring world if we just socialized with people who agree with us, did the same things we did and agreed that the same part of that Morrissey-track was the best musical achievement since Mozart's Requiem.

That's why you should go to the nearest library and borrow a book about a subject you know nothing about. Exert yourself finding the best book on the subject. Make use of the expertise available at libraries in the form of people who have actually been trained to help you. Librarians are not furniture. Ask them.

Right now I'm sitting with a book about fatherhood. I know nothing about being a dad. But I'll learn as much as I can to make it as good as possible.

Bonus: Give away the old and get new books - for free! http://www.bookcrossing.net/

Required time:
Half an hour to find the book. Then it depends on how fast you read, how difficult the book is to read and how many pages it consists of.
Cost:
It costs nothing to borrow books from libraries. It's fucking pointless really to buy books when you can borrow them for free. You can borrow from your friends and make sure to lend out your books, for example through BookCrossing.
Cons:
It can be difficult to understand the terminology if you are not familiar with the subject. But then you can just look it up in a dictionary or on Wikipedia.
Pros:
You learn something new. You broaden your fields of knowledge. You may add new skills to your group of people.
