#116 Learn to escape
When I used to skateboard I saw new asphalt platelets as opportunities. When I had just started to write poems, I saw situations in the city that I could use in a poem. When I worked on TV I saw everything in takes. Different kinds of glasses, just like the bank managers, scooter girls or emos have different kinds of glasses. But anyone who has tested the largest number of different kinds of glasses and has their whole heart, and apartment full of spectacle cases when she dies wins.
One day when I arrived by train from Stockholm to Gothenburg, I saw something new under the sun. There was a bunch of young people who stood by one of the railroad tracks and did some form of acrobatics. I stopped and looked at them. I was confused. I tried different kinds of glasses, but was no wiser because of it. They didn't have skateboards so weren't skateboarders. They had no portfolios so they weren't interest-loving bankers. But still bouncing their bodies from the bench to the bushes and from the trashcan to the platform.
In the end I gave up and asked what they were doing. One of the girls explained that it was called Le parkour. It sounded French, I thought. It is French, they said laughing. And it's about using the body as the only means to get around in different environments. The art of escape, or the art of getting around. I picked up my bag and thanked them for the explanation and went away. Bought an ice cream and sat on the tram home. While the city rolled past the box, I saw new opportunities. Plateaus, the city at different levels and shelves. As a level in Super Mario or a chase scene from a James Bond movie. A new filter to keep before your eyes.
