#126 Play krolf

Every summer we go to The Island. The reason I write Island with a capital letter is that it is not an ordinary island, it's The Island. And "we" is six guys, each with a backpack, food, games, beer, water, sleeping bags, and cell phones turned off. We spend five days on The Island each summer. It is total relaxation, sauna and madness. But it is not just for fun. Much good has been created on the island. Besides water compass, running naked on the slippery rocks and a troubadour battle, we have also invented a new sport called Krolf.

It requires an IQ of about twelve to open a door. To play Krolf requires at least 15. For the sports-knowing and observant, it is obvious that this is a combination of croquet and golf.
You start on batters plate, and your ball should come as close to the stick as possible. To make things a bit harder, your fellow players share the same field and also the terrain is hilly and difficult to access. Add a small amount of confusion after having spent several days on a desert island with five other guys who should have drunk more water than they did the night before, and you have a concept ready for deployment at the next Sports and Recreation convention.

Required time:
About thirty minutes when playing with six people.
Cost:
10-20 euro for a croquet set.
Cons:
As with all other sports, peoples’ bad sides become very apparent whilst playing Krolf. Those who are poor winners show it, and those who are bad losers show it too. You can become so angry that you hit the hammer on your own feet.
Pros:
It's a new way to play croquet if you are tired of the old way. You get the excitement and gentlemanly spirit of golf and the devastating feeling of camaraderie of croquet all in one package.
