#127 Dare to be ugly

Just a few days ago, I drove a car from Dalby to Lund. I had this new shirt and wife beater. I also had combed my hair carefully and styled it with expensive wax. But then I suddenly got an incredible urge to just crank down the window completely and stick my head out like a dog. Tongue fluttering in the wind, my hair like a scarecrow driving Formula 1 and all that jazz.

When we arrived and I stepped out of the car, E shrieked upon seeing me. Naturally, I had a big smile on my face.

Three steps in the process of daring to be ugly:

- Cut out the makeup, hair and other products for a full day to begin with.

- Take a hat or a cap to avoid thinking about your hair. If you're really hardcore, forget the hat and just let the hair flutter.

- Put on the most beautiful clothes you have, combined with loose, well-fitting slippers or shoes and head out on the town. Wear a pair of big sunglasses so you can relax and study people's reactions.

Required time:
Depends on how much time you've put in to fix your hair, make-up and color coordinate your clothes beforehand. But you save time.
Cost:
It is free to be ugly.
Cons:
People might think that you are disgusting, ugly or shabby. You might not score as much, or then again maybe you will. In certain cases it has been shown that people who do not care about their appearance become more attractive to others. My friend David hadn’t showered in two weeks and when he went out to the pub, and he hooked up three times during the same evening.
Pros:
You save time, you can focus on other things that matter more and you can practice distancing yourself from an over-consuming and shallow society.
