#140 See every film by a director
One of the stupidest things I have done was to say yes to hosting Filmkrönikan. One of the best things I have done was to say yes to hosting Filmkrönikan. Sometimes the worst crises and the most annoying periods in your life are perfect fuel for the future. It is about how to deal it.
I've always been a movie buff. Loved film. Talked film. Reviewed films. Since all the people who hang out in film circles worship and love Ingmar Bergman and thinks he is God, and because I'm an obstinate person who always does the opposite I chose not to see any Bergman films. So the headlines of the interviews before going to work on Filmkrönikan were about the same.
- Filmkrönikans new host hasn't not seen Bergman.
- Bergman not young Modiri’s cup of tea.
- Modiri disses Bergman.
It became a disaster. Columnists, film people, film directors. Anybody who were asked felt that Filmkrönikans new host, with his mohawk and his fluttering from Gothenburg, was an idiot because he hadn't seen Bergman.
All except one person. Marit Kapla at the Gothenburg Film Festival. She called me up and told them that they would show all of Bergman's fifty films for Gothenburg Film Festival, and wondered if I was keen to see all of them and do a seminar on Bergman?
Of course I was.
Of course I did.
I saw all of Ingmar Bergman's films in as many days. And that was that. I can tell you that he is quite breathtaking. If you were to start of with three Bergman films, it's Scenes from a Marriage, Persona and Wild Strawberries.
