What is so amazing with hobbies is that you can do whatever you want and call it a hobby. You can dress up for Elvis, save thousands of dollars to collect characters from Star Wars or construct a large dragon and put a camera on its belly and shoot your city from above. No one can say that it is not a hobby. It is up to you. You can do whatever you want.

A few years ago when I worked as a broadcaster on a radio show in France on Swedish Radio P3, I interviewed a few guys who spent their spare time on so-called plate spotting. It is to be compiled on the license plates. You should start with a license plate that begins at 001 and then you should find the 002nd and then 003 and from there can you guess how it goes.

I heard a story about a boy who sailed around the Ikea parking every pay weekend and spotted signs. Someone had heard that he had come full circle for two full times.

Here, I could write several pages analysis of why you would devote so much time with something that is as seemingly meaningless as plate spotting. But you can also ask why it would be better or more important in some way to write a blog called "365 things you can do”. Thousands of people probably think that’s completely meaningless. But if plate spotting means something to the people who do it, if it gives them some kind of meditation, focus or anything, it's an incredibly valuable hobby.
