#254 Write a rap

Today’s guest blogger is named Nanny-Maja Anderson Back, the author of the book "Vem fan bryr sig" - a book about garbage, love, and ruthlessness. She is 20 years old and lives in Umeå.

Over a year ago, I met a wonderful man and this great man taught me how to rap. Or rather, the courage; he taught me to dare to rap. Whether you can sing, write songs, or rhyme or not, you can rap!

I've never been good at being angry, I've never been good at screaming, making a ruckus or being loud, but now after my rap career has begun here at home, I'm not that bad at all actually. I can be angry, insolent and loud. And it's nice! Damn nice!

Engaging yourself, screaming and daring are the three key ingredients. And don’t forget the most important of all, ATTITUDE! And not just any attitude but an I’m-the-best-there-is-just-try-and-mess-with-me-attitude. Think of it as therapy, a dare-be-a-handful-and-get-that-Jante-law-away-from-me-therapy. Be cocky and enjoy it!

It might be nice to have a theme for the lashes, choose something that is dear to you or that you are pissed off at. Remember that nothing is a bad theme as long as you add superb rhymes.

In the case of the rhyming you can use both of rap-rhymes and rhyme-rhymes. Rap-rhymes means that almost everything rhymes, at least everything that sounds somewhat similar to each other, such as father and leather and gravy and baby. To me, that doesn’t cut it and I go for rhyming-rhyming. Butter and gutter, whore and shore. It’s up to you though, it’s your rap. The cherry on top of it all is making your own music video. Check out our video above. We did it on our winter vacation.

Good luck and go nuts!

How to:

Step 1 Find a friend to rap with / against.

Step 2 Find a beat: steal one or make one yourself.

Step 3 Create: Choose a theme and grab a pen and paper each and start writing, Remember that both rap-rhymes and rhyme-rhymes work.

Step 4 Record: When you feel ready, just do it. Do not forget to also record a music video (here it’s important to find the right outfit for your theme).

Required time:
1 week or less
Cost:
Free
Cons:
You might make enemies. Your friends and colleagues may become jealous if you are too good. You may become obsessed with writing the perfect line, the perfect rhyme.
Pros:
You express yourself; it’s okay to be cocky and feel better. You might even end up signing autographs. It's fun as hell!
